Express Yourself is a community art session with a focus on self-expression and self-advocacy, led by an experienced artist facilitator. The group explores new themes each week in a variety of mediums, developing different art techniques and forms of creative expression. This is an ideal art group for someone who is new to art or looking to explore different ways of working in a safe and supported space.

The group builds self-confidence and acts as a pathway to further groups and activities within the local community and at the Dracaena Centre. The group holds sharing events twice a year, where friends and family are invited to see their work. Express Yourself participants often progress to other Shallal groups such as: Shallal Studios, Shallal 2 and Shallal Dance Theatre.

Artists attending Express Yourself often join our Friends and Dancing movement session, which takes place afterwards.

I have worked with Express Yourself seven or eight times now. This group is great because it is about socialisation, movement, physicality, self-awareness as well as having fun and learning something about your creativity. None of us ever stops learning. I stay for the dancing and we take the learning and outcomes from Express Yourself into the dance.
