The National Lottery Heritage Fund

The National Lottery Heritage Fund was a key funder for our Cornish Doorways dance theatre and cross art project (2015 to 2018) awarding the project £42,600. During the project, Shallal Dance Theatre researched the life and legacy of Cornish philanthropist John Passmore Edwards resulting in artwork and a new performance piece celebrating his work in championing working class Cornish people in the Victorian era.

Our site specific show 'Ladders and Footprints' was performed at Falmouth's Passmore Edwards Free Library building, now housing Falmouth's public library and Falmouth Art Gallery. The show was then toured to libraries in North and East Cornwall (as outreach to new audiences), Falmouth University AMATA Performance Centre, Holifield Big Tent Festival and the Passmore Edwards Institute at Blackwater. Visual art made about Passmore Edwards was exhibited at Helston Museum and at the Exchange Gallery in Penzance.
