Recycling and slow fashion are at the heart of our new multimedia studio project.
Knitted Together will invite artists to create and exhibit work from recycled and repurposed materials. We will be partnering with guest artists such as The Seaweed Institute, Creative Roots and Susy Ward Ceramics to explore techniques.
The project will be a chance for many of our artists who have a strong interest in textiles and fashion to develop their work and learn new skills.
So many of our artists have wanted to explore textiles and costume ideas for a long time’, says Shallal Studios co-manager Lou Brett. ‘We have fantastic visiting artists coming in to share their skills in natural dyeing, weaving, knitting, dressmaking, ceramics and more. And everything we do will have a focus on recycling and finding new ways to reuse discarded materials. We are really excited!’.
Knitted Together includes a residency and exhibition at Grays Wharf in Penryn, showcasing the work of Shallal Studios artist Janet Holland. ‘We can’t wait to share Janet’s creative practice with audiences’, says Shallal Studios co-manager Phoebe Barnicoat. ‘As well as the exhibition of her completed artwork, this will be a unique opportunity for audiences to see Janet’s work in the making’.
