Picture Post

Picture Post was a six-month Shallal Studios project during the pandemic to encourage our artists to make art at home and to feel part of a creative community. We sent artists an activity pack each week with ideas for making art, along with paper, materials and a stamped addressed envelope. We also made instructional video to go with some of the activities. We worked in partnership with Project Ability in Glasgow, who kindly shared their art videos with us too. The weekly activity packs were also available online so that artists beyond Shallal could take part.  Artists responded to the weekly themes and sent their art back to us to be included on the website gallery and in a paper catalogue. The project was designed to enable artists without internet access to be included.

Over 600 artworks were sent back to us during the project and were uploaded to the gallery. All our artists have continued to make art with Shallal, many via our new Picture Post 2 project which combines Picture Post with our long-running Shallal Sketchbooks programme.

Artwork catalogues displayed informally with some opened to show pages of artwork and some closed to show the cover
