Growing out of our Knitted Together project, Knitted Together Zine brings together ideas about community spaces, culture and heritage which are central to Shallal.
In partnership with the wonderful Redruth Press, our project celebrates John Passmore Edwards, much loved Cornish Philanthropist, who provided many community spaces in Cornwall, as part of Shallal's year of celebration to mark his bicentenary.
As well as artists from Shallal Studios and Shallal Dance Theatre, we were lucky enough to work with The Ladder, formerly Redruth Library and participants from intoBodmin, formerly Bodmin Old Library, which were both built by Passmore Edwards and are still community spaces. We looked at community spaces in the past, the present day and what we want them to be like in the future. We also ran a printmaking workshop with Redruth Press at Redruth Market, a fantastic opportunity to talk to lots of different people and include their diverse views and creative visions.
Everything was then gathered together into a collaborative zine, 'A Space for All', bursting with everyone's ideas, opinions and dreams. Our zine was launched at The Ladder in October 2023 and we've distributed the zine to four Passmore Edwards buildings in Cornwall that still serve communities in Cornwall for people to pick up and enjoy for free.

Our Knitted Together theme continues with costume and construction ideas from our artists and a fashion show early in 2024.
