Knitted Together was a participatory project for Shallal artists and artists in our community to get together and explore exciting new materials and ways of working, focusing on what we can reuse and what we can make from natural and sustainable materials.
Artists included: Sam While, Sammy Avery, Mads De Lord, Karen Mitchel, Jodi O'Brien, Charlie Lyne, Janet Holland, Angie Tonkin, Pam Wilson, Zoe Wilton, Eden Harrison, Julie Jones, Kyle Coleman, Erin Gatrell Armstrong, Yvonne Hingston, Julia Wonnacott, Jane Parfitt, Rita Baker, Noel Hargreaves, 9 young people.
‘Knitted Together has opened so many doors for our artists to explore creativity with absolutely no rules or boundaries’, says Shallal Studios co-manager Phoebe Barnicoat. ‘Shallal Studios is an artist-led collective and as a group we’ve been learning things like natural dyeing, felting, weaving, ceramics and giant knitting that people have wanted to develop, as well as making our practice more environmentally friendly’.
The project held a final exhibition and weekend festival sharing the skills we learnt through the project with the public at Back Lane West project space.
Shallal Studios is grateful to project funders Arts Council England, Postcode Local Trust and The David Family Foundation.
