Newlyn Art Gallery takeover event

In January 2020, Newlyn Art Gallery offered Shallal the chance to take over the gallery for three days in a gap between shows

The long weekend was the culmination of three Shallal projects: It was the final Embodied Space improvised dance performance of Shallal Dance Theatre’s Here and Now project, the final art exhibition of our Shallal Studios Expanding Limits project and the final exhibition for our Shallal Back Lane West Studio Foundations residency. Shallal Studios filled the gallery with paintings, prints, drawings, photography and poetry.

For Shallal Dance Theatre's final Embodied Space dance performance the company was joined by light artist Peter Freeman who flooded the performance space with his changing coloured lights. The dance was a response to Peter's lights, and live soundscapes by George Bradley Peer.
